Telehouse opens sixth Frankfurt data center building with 5.4MW capacity

Telehouse, the data center subsidiary of Japanese telecommunications giant KDDI, has launched a new facility in Frankfurt, Germany, marking the company's sixth data center building in the city. The new Building N adds 5.4MW of IT capacity to the company's Frankfurt campus, responding to sustained demand for colocation services in one of Europe's most active data center markets.

Located at the company's Kleyerstraße 75-87 campus, Building N spans approximately 9,300 sqm (100,104 sq ft) across four floors, with about 2,165 sqm (23,304 sq ft) dedicated to technical space. The facility is currently air-cooled, but Telehouse said it is exploring the addition of liquid cooling capabilities to support higher-density computing workloads in the future.

The new building is designed to address growing demand for data center capacity across Europe, a trend that Telehouse attributes in part to the accelerating adoption of artificial intelligence applications. The campus itself covers 67,000 sqm (721,182 sq ft), with a total of 25,000 sqm (269,098 sq ft) of data center space now operational across its six buildings.

Telehouse entered the Frankfurt market in 2021 through the acquisition of Databurg, which was subsequently rebranded as Telehouse Frankfurt. The campus was originally launched by Databurg around 1998, and the previous facility on the site, Building M, came online in 2023. Telehouse confirmed that plans are already in place to open another data center on the same campus by 2030.

Sustainability remains a key component of the site's operations. Waste heat generated by the data center is fed into a district heating network that serves local residents in the surrounding area, a practice that is becoming increasingly common among European data center operators seeking to reduce their environmental footprint.

The Frankfurt expansion underscores Telehouse's broader European strategy. Founded in 1998, the company operates data centers across major cities worldwide, including London, Paris, Marseille, Istanbul, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, Tokyo, Bangkok, Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto. With the addition of Building N, Telehouse continues to strengthen its position in the German market, which remains a critical hub for internet connectivity and cloud infrastructure in Europe.
